How We Bring Our Mission to Life

LAVA turns its mission into action through a range of social, cultural, and educational programs designed to serve our members and strengthen our community. Below is how we carry out that work.

Community Events & Cultural Programming

We organize gatherings throughout the year that celebrate Liberian culture and bring our community together — from cultural celebrations and social mixers to educational programs and initiatives that reflect the interests of our members. We also sponsor and take part in outside programs that serve those same goals, expanding the ways our members can stay engaged and connected.

A Nonprofit, Community-First Organization

LAVA operates as a nonprofit charitable organization, registered under U.S. Internal Revenue Service requirements. Every resource we bring in goes back into our mission — no income is ever used for the personal benefit of our members. When you support LAVA, you're investing directly in programs that serve the community.

A Voice for Our Community

LAVA serves as a platform through which our members can express their concerns and be represented on the issues that matter most to them. We work to ensure the Liberian community in Virginia has a real voice — one that's heard and taken seriously.
